Afraid to fail?

July 3, 2022

Edition #081

Hey friends, happy Sunday Monday!

The Filter is coming a little late this week, mainly because I was waiting for this weeks video to upload πŸ˜… Here is that video: This Framework Changed my Life

Alrighty let's get into the Filter.

One Lesson

Afraid to fail?

The ability to decide what you do for a living is a fairly new thing.

In the past you'd be presented with a couple options at best, but now there are endless possibilities.

And with great choice comes great... indecision.

It's easy to waste years of your life trying to figure out the answer to "what should I spend my time working on?"

But usually the answer is pretty simple.

Find where you are most afraid to fail, then do that.

When you're afraid to fail it means you care. And when you care you're more likely to maximise your potential.

Two Ideas

I.

Don’t automate what should have been eliminated.

II.

Nothing has a higher ROI than surrounding yourself with positive people.

Three Favourite Finds

Lifestyles: Here's a fantastic story about 2 sailors competing to sail around the world the fastest and how their lifestyle choices drastically impacted their outcomes.

"But it was two participants who never completed the race that generated the most news. One ended up dead, the other found himself happier than ever. Both outcomes came from decisions made at sea, but neither had anything to do with sailing."

How much money would you need to live your ideal life?: $1 million? $10 million? $100 billion?

You'd think most people would go for the maximum amount right? Well maybe not, this study found that most people actually chose a relatively modest amount of money to live their "ideal life" showing that potentially you don't need all that much money to live how you want.

How dangerous is over-engineering for a start up?: I found this discussion on startups really interesting, my favourite part is this summary of startups:

β€œStartups are experiments. You need to write code and design systems that you are willing to through away until you have product market fit”

End note

The Sunday Filter relies on word of mouth to reach more people, if you’re enjoying the newsletter I’d really appreciate you sending it to a friend or sharing on Twitter.

Have a fantastic week!

p.s a truly great storyteller
